Photovoice

With photography, more can be expressed

I'm a proponent of photography and art being used in coaching sessions to get conversations started or to support self-discovery and the creative process.

Photography crosses cultural and linguistic barriers

Talking with photos is therapeutic. And translating pictures into words is a specialism of mine having spent six years integrating Clean Language with my photography practice (opens new window). I am a trained photovoice facilitator and have been on many mindful photography courses.

In sessions, photos can be printed, on your phone or device. The photos can be your own or others' pictures that speak to you. You don't need to know why, we will figure that out together. Storytelling with photos is powerful.

Other tools you can choose to use in a session with me include:

"In a remarkable process...

Natalie turned a selection of my own photographs into answers to big questions in my life. These were six or seven images she had asked me to bring; images that I felt were important to me in some way. It didn’t matter how.

During the session Natalie asked me a sequence of very simple but pertinent questions about what I saw in the photographs. Over the course of an hour this seemed to build the images into a kind of map of where I was and where I needed to go in my life. A powerful experience I would really encourage anyone to try. It left me with a real, grounded sense in myself." Couples counsellor and part-time photographer
